Necessary

A solution of ammonia - 10%, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, tooth powder or toothpaste, citric acid, baking soda, soft sponges, soft cloth for rags

Instructions

Step 1

Clean silver and silver coated items differently. Silver-plated items require delicate handling, you can scratch or remove a thin layer of silver when rubbing. For delicate cleaning, use a citric acid solution (100 g citric acid in 0.5 liters of water). Submerge the product completely in the solution and let it sit for 20 minutes. Silver items can be cleaned with a sponge. Clean the silverware immediately after use with detergent and a soft cloth back and forth. Remove remaining stains with a solution of alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

Step 2

Silver jewelry darkens faster as it comes into contact with human skin and air. Exposure to sweat, cosmetics, water leads to blackening and stains. Remove stains and blackening with a soft sponge using a citric acid solution (100 g citric acid in 0.5 liters of water), or soapy water and ammonia (2 tablespoons of ammonia in 1 liter of soapy water). If the size of the product allows (chain, earrings, ring), immerse it in the solution for 20 minutes.

Step 3

For severe blackening, use a gruel made from equal parts ammonia and tooth powder or baking soda with a little water. Apply gruel to the product. Wipe the silver item with a soft cloth until no dark marks remain on the cloth. Rinse cleaned silverware with warm running water to remove any remaining cleaning agent. Polish it with a soft cloth and the silver will regain its original shine.
