Fluorescent lamps are often used in rooms where there is no natural light source. These lighting fixtures save electrical energy due to their higher light output. Their power consumption is 5 times less than that of incandescent lamps. Fluorescent lamps help to reduce energy consumption by about 80%, they are more resistant to voltage surges and last 8 times longer than their competitors. Disadvantages of fluorescent lamps: - Firstly, they work with a trigger. This device is not very reliable, except for that annoying buzz is heard during its operation; - secondly, at low ambient temperatures, they ignite with difficulty and burn dimmer than at room temperature. - thirdly, their rather high cost. Most often, fluorescent lamps are used in non-residential premises: offices, production halls, trading floors, pavilions. Since these lamps have a harder light, in everyday life they are used with shades mounted on lamps (sconces, floor lamps, table lamps). Shades diffuse light and thus protect the eyes. It is not recommended to install fluorescent lamps in bathrooms, lavatories, as high humidity reduces the service life of lighting devices. However, there are special designs of luminaires that protect the lamps from moisture. They can even be installed above the kitchen sink. Fluorescent lamps come in different sizes and shapes. Please check the type of luminaire base before purchasing lamps. Most chandeliers have an E27 base, while smaller luminaires usually have an E14 base. Before choosing, imagine what shade of lighting will suit the color scheme of the interior. Choose a lamp with the desired color temperature according to the following principle: the lower the color temperature of the lamp, the closer the color is to red, the higher it is to blue. The most expensive and, accordingly, the best, are considered bulbs manufactured by OSRAM, Paulmann, OSRAM, PHILIPS, DeLux, PHILIPS. When buying, you need to be able to distinguish branded products from fakes. The easiest way is to determine the quality of the lamp by marking, which should be on the packaging and on the bulb. They must contain the name of the company and the country of origin, and on the packaging - the address of the manufacturer, translated into Russian. The seller must have a quality certificate. Remember that fluorescent lamps are filled with mercury vapor (2-5 mg), so do not damage the bulb indoors. Failed lamps cannot be thrown into ordinary trash, specialized companies are engaged in their disposal.
