The cleanest waters in the world

The cleanest river in Russia, Europe and the whole world is the Voncha River, which flows in the Republic of Mari El. Its length is 33 kilometers (including its sources), its width is 2-3 meters, and its depth does not exceed 1.5 meters. The main part of the river bed flows through the territory of the State National Park and the reserve "Mari Chodra". Woncha replenishes its waters from crystal clear streams and springs that flow in spruce and pine forests, among thickets of raspberries, alder and bird cherry.

Translated from the Mari, the word "Woncha" is translated as "cross" or "I will cross", and some residents of the republic call their river Vonja.

Until recently, even local residents did not suspect the existence of Woncha - she was found by researchers who equipped an expedition to the Mari forests. The travelers were amazed by the cleanliness and transparency of the rivulet that came across on their way, so they took water samples from it and handed them over to the specialists of the Mari State University. Those several times did ethyl-treblytyl analysis, the results of which amazed absolutely everyone. It turned out that there are many clean rivers in the republic, but such crystal clear water was discovered for the first time.

Why is Woncha so clean

After repeated repetition of the analysis, the result was always the same - there are absolutely no pollution in the river. Despite the fact that the region contains some of the cleanest rivers in the world, Woncha is the undisputed record holder among them.

In order for the rest of the reservoirs to be as clean, each head of the enterprise must purify industrial waste water with high quality.

The explanation for the purity of the Woncha is quite simple - in the territory where it flows, there have never been factories and industrial enterprises that pollute the environment. The river flows in a conservation area located far from large cities, which litter reservoirs with various industrial waste. In addition, the purity of Wonche is provided by "nourishment" in the form of crystal clear springs, which join its main channel. The state of the river, which today has become noticeably shallower due to deforestation and the formation of fields, is also very favorably affected by the termination of the processing of farm land with various pesticides and other chemicals. Thanks to these factors, Woncha was able to preserve its unique ecology and pristine purity.
