A band saw is a tool that uses a continuous metal band with teeth or other cutting devices along one edge. Under constant load, the saws become dull and therefore should be sharpened periodically. The sharpening process itself is very difficult, because improper sharpening of the tool can lead to a violation of the surface geometry. So how do you sharpen your band saws?

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the band saw, which is the essential backbone of any sawmill

Step 2

Check for hardened tool teeth. Since if they are hardened, then you will have to use an expensive diamond coated tool.

Step 3

Place the band saw firmly between a wooden vise and clamp it in a workbench, otherwise it will vibrate, which will significantly reduce the quality of sharpening. The process itself should start between the teeth around the base of the cavity and continue up and along the back of the tooth in one continuous motion. But do not forget that the width of the vice itself should not be less than 200 mm.

Step 4

Visually inspect the saw blade itself for sand, oil, resin, metal filings. If you find any of the above, then clean them off with a brush and a piece of wood.

Step 5

Move the cutting teeth 3 mm from their original position. If they are taken even more, then the very purpose of the cutting tooth can be violated. It will produce a marriage and repairs will be required quite quickly.

Step 6

Grind each cutting tooth of the tool separately. Do not forget that this process should retain the same sharpening pattern. Try to remove the same amount of metal, thereby maintaining the same profile, height and pitch of the saw teeth after sharpening.

Step 7

Very carefully return the teeth to their original position, because the correct position of the teeth ensures the power flow of air, the cooling of the steel itself and the removal of sawdust.

Step 8

Place the band saw on the sawmill and secure it.
