If you use not whole tubers as a planting material for planting potatoes, but only a peeled peel with buds preserved on it, the yield will not decrease. With equal care, the results are practically the same.

Growing out of purification

Most potatoes are grown from whole tubers, although it has been scientifically proven that the best harvest comes from the top of the tuber. There was an experiment in which the tubers were germinated in the dark for a month, and then the sprouts were broken out and planted in a greenhouse to grow. The sprouts developed a developed root system and after that they were planted in the field.

In addition, widespread planting of peelings was practiced during the war, the amount of pulp around the eye at that time did not exceed 2 grams. However, all these economical methods assume the presence of greenhouses or greenhouses, in extreme cases - a film shelter.

How potatoes grow from a peephole

In each eye of potato buds there are dormant buds, as a rule, from 3 to 5, and they are able to germinate after the previously hatched sprout has been broken off. For reproduction of potatoes from the sprouts, the cleaning in a special storage is laid out in one row and loosely so that the sprouts are not damaged. It is convenient to store the cleaners on racks with high sides. Wet sawdust or peat, soil will accelerate germination. If necessary, but not often, the sawdust is watered by adding mineral fertilizer to the water.

It is better to install the racks in a lighted room with a temperature not higher than 15-18 ° C. The sprouts after the cleansing are laid, as a rule, appear as early as 18-20 days, and emerge to the surface through sawdust. The tops of usually white eyes in a lit room turn green very quickly. Then the first leaves appear and a full-fledged root system develops. In this state, they can already be selected from the shelves as a full-fledged planting material. It is more difficult to plant and transport long shoots, and large roots will get tangled and will inevitably be torn off and injured, therefore, if possible, it is better to plant potatoes already when they reach 6-7 cm.

The resulting seedlings are planted on a site according to the scheme of 60x20 cm. It is not worth deepening much, since deep planting gives low yields. The green part of the sprout should remain 2-3 cm above the surface. Another important addition is that when planting, you should not lift the roots up, since they are likely to die off from this, it is better to place each bush on a cone of soil, evenly distributing the roots along its walls. You need to handle potato sprouts in the same way as with tomato and other nightshade seedlings, for example, for planting it is better to choose cloudy weather.

Depending on the presence of rain, the planted seedlings should be watered, since the sprouts have nowhere to take additional strength, because they do not have a tuber. Most often, seedlings take root well, rarely die, and after a couple of weeks caring for a potato field is no different from caring for a field of tubers. Loosening of row spacings and hilling of bushes should be carried out in due time.

Potato seedlings easily die from frost, and therefore, when planting in a permanent place, it is necessary to take into account the forecast of the possibility of a sharp cold snap.
