Instructions

Step 1

Connect the turntable to the sound card of your computer using the appropriate cable. If your turntable has an audio output, you will most likely need a two-prong RCA cable, usually red and white. If the player does not have a dedicated audio output, connect using the headphone jack. This requires a wire with a mini-jack interface (3.5 mm). Connect the other end of the wire to the microphone connector on your computer's sound card. Typically, a mini-jack interface is also used.

Step 2

Prepare the player for playback. Turn it on, put on the vinyl you want. Place the turntable needle on the very first track of the record.

Step 3

Select one of the audio recording applications. Examples include Sound Forge, Audacity, Adobe Audition, and others. Launch the program and create a new project. Perform a trial recording. To do this, click on the corresponding button in the application. It is usually indicated by a red circle or Record. After that, start playing the disc on the playback device. Keep an eye on the monitor that shows the sound level in the app. If necessary, adjust the volume so that the recorded sound is not too quiet or too loud.

Step 4

Stop recording in a minute or two. Click the play button in the app. It is usually indicated by a green arrow or Play. Listen to the recorded material. If the quality of the recording suits you, start recording the entire disc. If not, adjust the sound properly.

Step 5

Delete the recorded track in the app. Place the needle at the beginning of the record. Press the record button in the program and start playback on the player. Wait until everything is recorded. After that, save the audio file using the "File" -> "Save" menu.
