Crossing rivers, especially at the locations of dams and turbines of power plants, is very dangerous - due to the presence of powerful currents and whirlpools. There are eddies even in small rivers, in shallow waters. If you tried to swim across the river in this particular place and found yourself caught in a whirlpool - try not to get confused and act according to the rules.
Once in the current, do not fight with it, save your strength. It is best to cross the current across. In the funnel, it tightens in a circle - swim along it, but gradually raking away from the center.
If you can't swim in a circle and you find yourself in the center of the whirlpool, take in more air into your lungs and dive. Try to find a current that brings to the surface, and does not carry in a circle. This is a must in any funnel - it will take you upstairs.
In order not to lose orientation under water, release a few air bubbles - they will always rise to the top. In addition, the whirlpool can cause dizziness, disrupt the coordination of movements - try not to get confused and not panic.
Strong currents in shallow water are very dangerous, since the bottom can be strewn with snags, debris, and sharp stones. Avoid touching the bottom while driving until you reach a fairly level area. Here, turn against the current and straighten up to your full height, trying to sharply stand to the bottom.
If you fail to get up, go with the stream further, to a wider part of the river. The wider the river, the less current, as a rule.
Perhaps you are being driven by the current onto a large boulder or tree sticking out of the water. Try to expose your legs or arms to the impact, thus protecting vital organs. It's good if you manage to grab the tree with your hands.
In shallow waters, algae are also dangerous. If you feel that they have looped their arms, legs, and torso, don't panic. Take a horizontal position and do not make sudden movements, carefully leave the dangerous place.
Prolonged exposure to water and hypothermia can cause seizures. In this situation, immerse yourself in the water with your head (vertically), straighten your legs, grab your big toes with your hands and pull sharply towards you. Try to work more of the contracted muscle, you will be able to get rid of cramps faster.
