Cannibalism among people may indicate the manifestation of their mental abnormalities. As a rule, crimes motivated by cannibalism are serial in nature, and those convicted for them receive life sentences. Today, cannibalism, fortunately, is not widespread. In Russia, this phenomenon is extremely rare.

Cannibalism - what is it?

Cannibalism is cannibalism. In other words, it is people eating human meat. This phenomenon was widespread among primitive people and was practiced at the earliest stage of the Stone Age. A little later, cannibalism ceased to be a necessity, since the supply of other food resources increased in primitive communities. Cannibalism is now considered a crime and carries criminal liability.

This phenomenon is widespread among animals. But there is a significant difference in cannibalism among people and animals: for most animals, eating their own kind is the only way to survive and preserve their kind, while for modern man, cannibalism is often the embodiment of one's own sick fantasies. By the way, in entomology (the science of insects) there is so-called sexual cannibalism.

What is Sexual Cannibalism?

Sexual cannibalism is a specific sexual behavior among certain insect species. The most famous cannibal insects are mantises and spiders. The essence of this behavior is that the female, during or after mating, eats her own sexual partner. Entomologists say that sexual cannibalism among insects is a forced measure that allows the female to accumulate strength to raise her offspring. Scientists believe that both sexual partners are interested in this.

Some researchers see in the sexual cannibalism of insects a kind of selection of the best males for the subsequent reproduction of offspring. It is curious that female cannibals (females of praying mantises, spiders, mosquitoes) are outwardly much larger than males of their own species, which allows them to attack them without hindrance. There is a widespread theory that females eat their partners simply by mistake, i.e. do not isolate them among many other creatures that serve as ordinary food for females.

Cannibalism today

Some cases of cannibalism did take place in modern times. For example, a story that took place in the spring of 2001 in Germany is documented. Then a certain Armin Meiwes, who works as a system administrator, posted several ads on the Internet related to cannibalism: he offered anyone who wanted to be eaten of their own free will. It is curious that these announcements have found their response. In particular, a certain Jurgen Brandes wanted to be eaten. It is known for certain that Brandes, on a voluntary basis, allowed the cannibal Meiwes to carry out his idea.

A criminal case was initiated against Armin Meiwes. On July 10, 2006, the court delivered a verdict: 8 years in prison for manslaughter. A little later, the case was re-reviewed, and Meiwes received a life sentence for his actions. By the way, the most famous Russian cannibals were Andrey Chikatilo, Alexander Spesivtsev, Alexey Sukletin. Of course, these people did not satisfy their own hunger, but simply received indescribable pleasure from what was happening.
