In every house, perhaps, there are funny and even useful bronze, copper and brass things left as a legacy by grandparents: copper cezves and brass saucepans, mortars, doorknobs, candlesticks and much, much more. These comfortable and durable beautiful things darken or become covered with a bloom over time. So how do you clean up antiques from plaque yourself?

Instructions

Step 1

To clean the bronze, use a doughy mass of ground chicory and water. Rub bronze items with this mass using a brush, then rinse with water and dry.

Step 2

Unscrew the flies or dusty bronze items, put them in a container with dissolved yellow peas, cover with water and put on fire. Boil the bronze in the peas for several hours, then rinse the item with a soft brush to remove the pea particles and lay out to dry. After the items are dry, rub them with a dry cloth and chalk.

Step 3

Remove burnt stearin from gilded bronze items (for example, candlesticks). Make a mixture of 30 parts water, 8 parts nitric acid and 1 part aluminum sulfate. Observe the proportions! Brush the mixture very gently onto the product. Dry items so cleaned only by a hot oven or in the sun.

Step 4

Remove rust from bronze items as follows. Cook yellow peas (it should be grinded to a thick dough), coat the thing with a warm mass. After a few hours, when the pea dough is dry, wash the bronze clean with boiling water using a brush. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.

Step 5

Tarnished aluminum or brass surfaces can be refurbished easily. Just rub them with a regular eraser.

Step 6

To remove greens and metals in warm soapy water.

Step 7

There is another ancient way to clean copper, brass and bronze: dissolve one tablespoon of salt in one glass of whey. Soak a flannel or cloth cloth with this mixture and use it to clean the product.
