The main purpose of motor pumps is to pump out and move water and other liquids in large volumes. They are widely used in irrigation and reclamation works, when extinguishing fires, pumping water from pools and wells, refueling many types of transport.

Instructions

Step 1

The choice of a pump is primarily determined by what you buy it for. Centrifugal pumps are used to pump out water, but for more viscous liquids (fecal matter, animal waste, etc.) - membrane pumps with a diaphragm.

Step 2

One of the main indicators is the performance of the motor pump, measured in liters per minute (l / min). If you have to deal with industrial volumes of water, then choose a model with a capacity of up to 1.5 thousand m3 / hour. And for pumping, for example, groundwater from the basement of a private house, an inexpensive, household motor pump is quite suitable.

Step 3

Another important parameter is the height of the water column, that is, the height of the motor pump location relative to the surface level of the water taken in. The vast majority of power pumps are self-priming with a built-in check valve, which is able to provide a "dry start" in the absence of water in the suction hose. Depending on the model, the maximum suction depth can range from 7.5 to 8.5 meters.

Step 4

Pay special attention to protecting the pump from mechanical damage. It must have filters in the form of nets that protect the pump from the penetration of large particles.

Step 5

If you are going to pump hot liquids, keep in mind that most pumps are designed for temperatures below 900. As the temperature rises, materials expand, especially at mating points and valves, which leads to gaps, pressure drops and reduced efficiency.

Step 6

It should be remembered that the characteristics indicated in the data sheet apply to water at room temperature. With regard to the magnitude of the head, then with ordinary pumping of liquids, it does not really matter. In this case, you can purchase a domestic pump with a head of 25-35 meters. But for extinguishing fires, you should choose a model with a powerful pressure and high reliability. Some Japanese motor pumps meet these requirements.
