The main advantage of its use is good bristle penetration into all irregularities that may occur on the surface.
The bristles on the hand can be natural or artificial. Neither option has particular advantages; bristle brushes often lose the pile that breaks. In turn, low-quality artificial brushes can deform under the action of varnishes or solvents, they can lose color and stain the varnish at the same time.
For small items with many ridges and indentations, such as various wooden figures or carvings on the surface, a thin, round brush with a long handle is best. And for applying varnish on a flat surface, flat brushes of various sizes are better suited. The smaller the object, the smaller the brush should be. Very small things that need to be varnished are often dispensed with completely without a brush, completely dipping them into a container of varnish.
Other application options
Paint rollers are very popular when applying varnish, this is especially convenient when you need to varnish a large surface. When working with a wide long board, door or countertop, walls, ceiling and floor, working with a roller is incomparably more convenient than with a wide brush, the work is faster. Not all paint rollers are suitable for working with varnish - it is best to stay with foam rubber, velor ones are also good.
Professionals often use a spray gun or spray gun when applying varnish. This method has worked well on large and very large areas - walls, ceiling and floor of houses, fences. When applying varnish with a spray gun, the coating will be uniform, without traces of application. In large areas, this result is not easy to achieve using other methods. It is possible to spray the varnish only in a clean and well-ventilated area, since all dust particles from the air will settle on the surface together with the varnish.
Small surfaces, except for brushes, can be varnished with a swab rolled from scrap materials. When choosing a fabric, you need to remember that traces of pile on the varnish look very ugly, so it is better to give preference to smooth, dense, lint-free fabrics of dim colors.
