With the onset of winter, as a rule, in nature you will no longer find flying mosquitoes, butterflies and many other insects, but their life is not interrupted, they just fall into a state of hibernation.

Instructions

Step 1

With the onset of autumn, the number of mosquitoes decreases sharply. Most of the insects die after the first laying of eggs, the rest find for themselves various places in which they could endure the cold. As a rule, these are dry tree hollows and their bark, grass, moss, burrows, all kinds of cracks, deep caves, etc.

Step 2

In winter, mosquitoes are able to tolerate cold relatively well at any stage of development, that is, in the form of a larva, pupa, and in the form of an adult. The latter often hide in various unheated household buildings of a person (basements, cellars, etc.)

Step 3

Winter for mosquitoes is a period of diapause. At this time, they do not feed and, accordingly, do not reproduce. There are exceptions when mosquitoes hibernate in warm rooms and retain their natural activity - they feed, lay eggs, etc. That is why, for example, mosquitoes can be found in apartments on the first floors of houses that have damp basements even in January frosts.

Step 4

Unlike mosquitoes, butterflies do not live long. Some species die within a couple of hours after leaving the pupa, some live the whole day. There are very few butterflies that can live for months, let alone survive the winter. These are mainly large-winged insects that are born in the fall.

Step 5

Overwintering at the pupal stage is the most common way of transferring cold weather for Lepidoptera. Basically, pupae winter in secluded places, which are used by plants, grass, fallen leaves, moss. But there are those who winter, attaching themselves, for example, to a tree branch.

Step 6

Butterflies lemongrass, urticaria hibernate, being already in the adult stage. They mostly hide under the bark of trees. Wintering takes place in a state of hibernation (suspended animation). The insect's development stops during this period. Unfortunately, during the onset of a light thaw and frost that follows it, many butterflies die, unable to survive the cold.

Step 7

In recent decades, scientists have recorded a trend: more and more butterflies migrate from their natural habitats to human dwellings. Moreover, butterflies fly to big cities. The explanation is simple - the heat radiated from houses and industrial facilities attracts insects during cold weather. Butterflies live under the roofs of houses, as well as in basements. Anabiosis does not always occur, and therefore most of the insects die, which causes concern for researchers.
