Miniature cherry tomatoes were developed in 1973 as part of work to slow the ripening of tomatoes in hot climates. Tomatoes from the group of cherry varieties are distinguished by a sweeter taste and some decorative effect, they look good in salads and canned food. These vegetables can be grown both outdoors and in greenhouses and at home.

Necessary

  • - seeds;
  • - Fluorescent Lamp;
  • - "Epin-extra";
  • - potassium permanganate;
  • - sand;
  • - humus earth;
  • - sod land;
  • - complex fertilizer.

Instructions

Step 1

Low-growing, determinant varieties are best suited for growing at home. The size of their root system will allow the plant to feel quite comfortable in a flowerpot or pot. Seed preparation should begin in mid to late March. Before sowing, it is useful to disinfect the seeds by placing them in a strong solution of potassium permanganate for fifteen minutes. Rinse treated seeds with running water and pat dry.

Step 2

Prepare a solution of four drops of Epin-extra and one hundred milliliters of water. Soak the seeds in this liquid for eighteen hours.

Step 3

For growing cherry seedlings, a soil mixture of the same amount of sand, humus and sod land is suitable. Pour this mixture into a suitable container, 5 to 6 centimeters thick.

Step 4

Water the soil and make grooves in it about two and a half centimeters apart. Sow seeds into these grooves one and a half centimeters deep.

Step 5

Cover the container with seeds with foil and place in a warm room with an air temperature of at least twenty degrees.

Step 6

Once the seeds have sprouted, move the container to a windowsill. To prevent the plants from stretching in conditions of short daylight hours, they will need additional lighting. Usually a fluorescent lamp is used for this. Water the seedlings as the soil dries.

Step 7

After the seedlings have two or three real leaves, they can be dived into separate pots if you are going to transplant tomatoes into open ground. If tomatoes will grow in your apartment, immediately dive them into large pots. To do this, water the seedlings well before removing them from the ground.

Step 8

Mix soil from one part humus, one part sand, and eight parts parboiled garden soil. Plant the seedlings in this mixture, pinching the roots a third of the length. Plants should be buried in the soil up to the cotyledonous leaves.

Step 9

A week after transplanting, the plants need to be fed with a solution of combined fertilizer. Fertilizer "Stimul", diluted at the rate of twenty scales per ten liters of water, is quite suitable for this purpose. Tomatoes should be fed every ten days.

Step 10

Water the tomatoes twice a week, but abundantly and warm water. Do this in the morning. Two hours after watering, loosen the soil and ventilate the room where the plants are.

Step 11

Low-growing tomatoes are grown in two to three stems. To do this, leave the main stem and a couple of stepchildren. The rest of the stepsons should be removed so as not to get too thickened bush.

Step 12

To harvest tomatoes grown indoors, artificial pollination should be used. To do this, during flowering, once every three to four days, the plant should be lightly tapped on the stem so that pollen from the upper flowers falls on the lower ones. After pollination, the tomatoes should be watered.
