In the early stages of the planet's existence, the development of a lifeless geosphere - the earth's shell - took place. Its appearance was influenced only by earthquakes, volcanoes, movements of the earth's crust, etc. With the emergence of life, living matter, at first slowly and weakly, and then more and more rapidly began to influence the geological processes of the Earth.

Step 1

In the beginning, living organisms fed on organic compounds of the primary ocean. Carbon dioxide was released into the atmosphere as a by-product. When the ocean's reserves were depleted, microorganisms took advantage of the ability to synthesize organic compounds from the hydrogen present in the atmosphere and the accumulated carbon dioxide in it.

Step 2

As a result of the vital activity of these microorganisms, methane was released into the atmosphere. Under the influence of ultraviolet light, it again turned into organic compounds and returned to water.

Step 3

When the reserves of hydrogen in the atmosphere were depleted, photosynthesis became a new source of energy. In the first photosynthetic bacteria, it proceeded without oxygen evolution.

Step 4

When organisms with a more perfect mechanism of photosynthesis appeared, oxygen began to be released into the atmosphere. For living organisms of those times (mainly anaerobes), it was the strongest poison. In the end, he was not only "neutralized", but also began to be used to obtain energy - this is how oxygen breathing appeared.

Step 5

In the upper layers of the atmosphere oxygen was converted into ozone under the influence of ultraviolet rays, and as ozone accumulated, a reliable ozone shield was formed, protecting the planet from the harmful ultraviolet radiation. Thanks to this, living organisms came to land and populated it.

Step 6

In the biosphere, the processes of synthesis and decay of organic substances are continuously going on. The cycles of these substances ensure the stability of the functioning of the biosphere. The balance between the processes of decay and synthesis was established at the end of the Mesozoic - the beginning of the Cenozoic, and about 2.5 million years ago the first people appeared. Now humanity is creating an almost artificial environment for its habitation, and the anthropogenic factor has become a powerful driving force in the evolution of life on Earth.
