The first Zippo first saw the light of day in 1933, and for about a hundred years, "windproof lighters" have been symbols of reliability and attributes of classic men's style. Often, if the creators of a movie need to emphasize the brutality of the hero, it is Zippo that ends up in his hands. It is worth remembering at least such cult films as Indiana Jones, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard. But owning a Zippo is not enough, you need to be able to effectively light it.

Necessary

  • - gasoline for refueling;
  • - wick;
  • - flint.

Instructions

Step 1

Zippo will never light up unless you take care of it ahead of time. These lighters are always sold unfilled, so before use you should remove the flint insert from it, turn it upside down, lift the felt block and pour special gasoline into the cotton-like material inside. It should saturate the "cotton wool", but not overflow beyond the edges of the fuel chamber. Let the liquid soak, cover with a felt block, and put the block back into the case. Check periodically how much gasoline is left in the block and top up as needed.

Step 2

Also monitor the condition of the wick. If it turns too black, pull it up with tongs or pliers and cut off the darkened part. The upper cut edge of the wick should be flush with the edge of the "pipe". One wick is enough for 3-4 months of regular use. Flint is also subject to replacement in Zippo, it is easiest to check it - as long as the flint gives a spark, it is reliable. After making sure that the lighter is ready, you can learn how to extract the flame from it in one of many ways (and there are about 50 of them).

Step 3

The easiest way is to grab the Zippo in your dominant hand with your fingers wrapped around it so that the large one resists everyone else and is on the other side of the hinges on the lid. With this finger you pry off the lid, and then, placing it on the flint wheel, quickly turn it down. As soon as a spark appears, a flame will ignite.

Step 4

After a few workouts, you can light the Zippo in a way called the Double Flip. It differs from the one described above only in that by practicing you achieve that from the side the two movements with which you open the lid and rotate the flint merge into one smooth and continuous.

Step 5

There are several ways called Butterfly. The simplest of them is to take the lighter like a match, placing your fingers along the long side of the case, while the hinges on the lid should "point" to the floor. Briskly lower your wrist down and then lift up as well. The lid on the lighter should fold back by itself. Use the thumb of the hand holding the lighter to spark the spark from the flint.

Step 6

Try to light up the Zippo in the cowboy way. It will only work if you are wearing jeans. Take the lighter as described above, but so that the lid opens towards you. Flip it back with your fingers. With a sharp movement, slide the flint over the thigh covered with a coarse fabric. It should point first down and then sharply up. Take a closer look at how cowboys do it in your favorite westerns.
