Deafness - what is it?

Hearing loss is a condition of the body in which a person does not hear speech or any other sounds at all. That is, it is assumed a high degree of severity of hearing impairments, which are on the border with its final loss. Today, hearing impairment occurs often not only in old age, but also in young people, and even sometimes in children. The reasons can be quite varied:

- hearing loss due to age;

- diseases of the ENT organs, various infections and injuries;

- brain damage;

- possible hereditary diseases.

Some deaf people with partial ear functions are helped by wearing extremely powerful BTE hearing aids. In others, the function is completely lost. They require completely different methods of treatment.

World of the deaf

Hearing loss is not easily perceived by a person, often awakening difficult internal emotional experiences. For a long time, almost everyone does not want to admit to himself that he has a hearing impairment, since he considers this phenomenon to be a physical handicap and the fact that old age is approaching. As a result, severe hearing impairment is detected by the surrounding people, and not the person himself. And the main thing here is to talk to the person as tactfully as possible, to explain to him that the problem cannot be hidden, it is necessary to somehow solve it. The sooner a person admits to himself that he begins to lose his hearing, the easier it will be to organize help for him.

The world around us, in which there are no sounds and words, is similar to a silent cinema screen, when watching which you expect titles to appear in order to understand what is happening. Only now it is very difficult for a person suffering from a hearing loss. He doesn't have to wait for credits. He constantly has to use only the sixth sense, since he must guess and build the meaning of phrases and surrounding situations.

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. People with a hearing loss have to regularly and forcefully listen to the surrounding sounds and words in order to grasp the meaning of what is happening. For people with hearing loss, devices such as hearing aids, aids and cochlear implants, as well as subtitling, sign language training, learning support, and social support may be helpful. Technology does not stand still. New and new gadgets are constantly being invented so that cinema, sports, study, work, travel and many other wonderful things become fully accessible to deaf people.
