The conscription for military service is an event strictly regulated by the current legislation. This means that a young man can be sent into the army only during the period of the draft, and in other months he can sleep peacefully.

The timing of conscription activities in relation to citizens subject to military service is established by Federal Law No. 53-FZ of March 28, 1998 "On military duty and military service."

Dates of conscription campaigns

According to the provisions contained in Article 25 of the said normative legal act, conscription for military service in the Russian Federation is carried out twice a year. Moreover, each draft campaign lasts at least three months: thus, the total period during which young people can be sent to serve in the army exceeds half of each calendar year.

The so-called spring conscription campaign, often referred to as the spring conscription, runs from April 1 to July 15. At the same time, however, for certain categories of conscripts, the indicated terms may change. Thus, residents of the Far North and other regions equated to them in status, within the framework of the spring draft, can be sent to the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation only in the period from May 1 to July 15. At the same time, teachers who carry out educational activities are sent to the army. But the inhabitants of rural areas engaged in sowing work are not at all subject to conscription for military service in the spring and summer.

As for the autumn conscription campaign, the general terms of its conduct, established by Article 25 of Federal Law No. 53-FZ of March 28, 1998, "On conscription and military service" include the period from October 1 to December 31 of each year. At the same time, residents of the regions of the Far North and similar territories are again called up according to an abbreviated program - from November 1 to December 31. Teachers who are current employees of educational institutions are not subject to conscription in the autumn-winter period, and villagers who are engaged in harvesting at this time can be sent to the army only from October 15 to December 31.

Persons to be called up for military service

At the same time, however, the indicated terms of the conscription events apply only to young people who, according to the current legislation, can be called up for military service. The prerequisites for this are the age from 18 to 27 years, the citizenship of the Russian Federation and the absence of grounds for granting the young person a deferral or exemption from service.

In turn, a complete list of such grounds is given in Articles 23 and 24 of Federal Law No. 53-FZ of March 28, 1998 "On conscription and military service." For example, such reasons may be education in a higher education institution, the presence of one of the diseases defined by law, and other reasons.
