Thermal containers and thermal bags, often called cooler bags, can come in handy when traveling, outdoors, and on long hikes during the warmer months. They will also help keep frozen food from defrosting when it is delivered home from the store.

Step 1

To increase the preservation time of food in proper quality, cooler bags are supplied with cold accumulators or dry ice. The former are briquettes or plastic bags filled with saline. Some manufacturers complete their products with standard batteries built into the bag cover, which are given an attractive design and an easy-to-use shape. This battery can be used as a tray for cooling drinks at the table. Before the upcoming trip, the cold accumulator must be kept in the freezer of an ordinary household refrigerator for 8-10 hours.

Step 2

Pay attention to such a parameter of the thermal bag as the capacity, which is determined by the weight of the product. The weight of a small bag for transporting several containers of drinks is no more than 400 g. A bag weighing about 5 kg can hold up to 15 kg of food. In such bags without cold accumulators at moderate ambient temperatures, food remains cold for 3 to 5 hours. Using batteries under the same conditions increases the shelf life of food in a large bag to 12-24 hours, in a small bag - from 7 to 12 hours.

Step 3

For the manufacture of rigid thermal bags, special polymer materials are used, for elastic ones, durable fabrics such as polyester and nylon are used. Thermal insulation is achieved by creating two-layer structures. Foamed polymers - polyethylene foam and polyurethane foam - are reliable materials in this respect.

Step 4

When choosing a thermal bag, decide which transport device is more preferable for you. These can be items with one or two handles or shoulder straps, comfortably padded and adjustable. Large thermal bags can have pull-out handles with several fixed positions, as well as support rollers for easy movement. Some bag models can be worn as backpacks.
