Coaxial cable is the most common medium for transmitting video signals. It is reliable, affordable, easy to install. That is why such a cable is most often used for image transmission in television complexes and surveillance systems. The preparation of the coaxial cable for connection is determined by its type, dimensions of the center conductor and other performance characteristics.

Necessary

  • - coaxial cable;
  • - assembly knife;
  • - pliers;
  • - sandpaper;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - POS-60 solder;
  • - flux (solution of rosin in alcohol);
  • - auxiliary assembly cable.

Instructions

Step 1

For a simple splicing of two lengths of coaxial cable, use soldering with a wire tie. Since this breaks some of the cable insulation, this can lead to a change in the characteristic impedance and a deterioration in the signal quality. The soldering method is applicable primarily if the device uses VHF radio frequencies.

Step 2

Use butt-soldering, a widely used method of splicing cable pieces. Strip and solder the center conductors of the cable. When cutting, remove the protective jacket and braided shield. Remove the insulation from the wire and strip the wire with a mounting knife. After soldering, restore the insulation and apply a wire tie to the braid.

Step 3

If the design of the center wire assumes the presence of several conductors, connect them by winding one on top of the other. First, remove the insulation from each end of the center conductor by 25-30 mm. Untwist the core and clean each current-carrying wire with double-folded sandpaper.

Step 4

Fold very thin wires of the central core with an overlap so that they overlap each other by about 10-15 mm. Cover the soldering area with a flux made from rosin dissolved in alcohol. It is more convenient to solder thin wires not with a soldering iron, but place the junction for a few seconds in a bath with molten solder.

Step 5

When routing coaxial cable between individual buildings, try to place it vertically where possible. Attach the cable directly to the wall, optional mast, or auxiliary cable. The distance between the fasteners must not exceed 2 m.

Step 6

When storing the cable for a long time, protect its ends from moisture penetration inside. To do this, use universal sealed connectors, which can later be used also during the operation of the cable.
