Air leaking in the engine is an extremely unpleasant phenomenon. Many motorists face it. They solve this problem in different ways. Some go straight to the service center, others try to cope with the problem on their own. To "cure" your car, you need to purchase some equipment - in particular, a smoke generator. It is also useful for diagnosing other devices.

Necessary

  • - smoke generator;
  • - battery;
  • - compressor;
  • - a set of adapters.

Instructions

Step 1

At car service stations, smoke generators are now most often used to detect leaks. In principle, you can assemble it yourself, but a factory-made generator is more reliable. Its principle of operation is based on the fact that a device in which air can be sucked in is filled with colored smoke. This smoke is formed from a special liquid. It is harmless to both humans and cars. Check the package contents before starting work. The kit includes an evaporator module, a heater power regulator, a throttle adapter, a hose, a plastic box, and an LED flashlight.

Step 2

Read the instructions and familiarize yourself with the technical specifications of the device. Connect the smoke generator to the vehicle system you want to diagnose. Position it as close as possible to where the holes might be. Locate the generator inlet and outlet fittings. Connect the first through the throttle adapter to the compressed air source, the second through the hose with the intake manifold. Plug the inlet of the intake tract.

Step 3

Connect the electronic regulator to the power supply. As a rule, this is a car battery, but you can also use a constant voltage source with a power of 5 A and a voltage of 11-15 V.

Step 4

Supply compressed air to the generator with the handle set to maximum. As soon as smoke appears, put the handle to the optimal position or even to the minimum. The compressed air comes out at a pressure of 1-2 bar. To supply it, a tire inflation compressor is suitable. Smoke is generated in about two minutes. You will find out that there is a suction by the LED flashlight.

Step 5

Check the smoke pressure on the pressure gauge. It should not exceed 0.5 bar. If the pressure is too high, some parts of the system may fail. With the help of a smoke generator, you can diagnose not only the engine, but also the air conditioner, fuel system, transmission, etc.
