Mechanical watches have a rather complex mechanism. The simplest ones consist of six main units: an engine, a transmission mechanism of gears, a regulator, a distributor, a pointer mechanism, and a watch winding mechanism. To make a mechanical watch yourself, you will need knowledge of mechanics and the ability to calculate the gear ratio of gears and shafts.

Instructions

Step 1

The most convenient for self-production are wooden clocks. Take dense wood: maple, ash, beech. Cut discs of the required thickness from it and saturate them with varnish, for example, parquet.

Step 2

Calculate the main gears for the gears and pinions (shafts) of the clock, taking into account that the second shaft makes one revolution in 1 minute, the central shaft (minute) makes a revolution in 1 hour. With the simplest calculation, you need to get nine main gears and three additional gears for the plant assembly.

Step 3

Turn the workpieces in accordance with the received dimensions. On the tribes from the ends, make holes for installing the support shafts from bamboo or metal.

Step 4

Cut the teeth on the pinions and pinions using modular cutters or a CNC machine (if you have one).

Step 5

Carve out the hands, the anchor fork, the swingarm, the weight pulleys, the winding knobs, the dial from wood.

Step 6

Glue the hands to the clock wheels with glue, put the gears on the tribes. Make plates (places for installing shafts) from the same type of wood, drill holes for the shafts. Make a wooden weight (weigh it down with metal or cement from the inside).

Assemble the clock, hang the pendulum, start it and adjust it.
