Every year in Moscow, the problem of transport is becoming more acute. The existing platforms can allow to operate no more than 10-11 cars, and the electric trains are already almost overcrowded today. The solution to the problem will be double-deck aeroexpress trains, which will increase the capacity of trains by 20-30%.

The decision to purchase double-deck Aeroexpress trains was made by Aeroexpress in the spring of 2012. Based on the developments of the Swiss company Molinari Rail AG, various train options were proposed, of which double-deck electric trains best suited Russian conditions.

According to Aeroexpress plans, by 2015 new trains will completely replace the existing transport on the Paveletsky Railway Station - Domodedovo Airport route. This is one of the busiest destinations, and in a few years the maximum permissible load will be reached.

New aeroexpress trains will delight passengers with air conditioning systems, modern car interiors, and pressurized inter-car passages. Thanks to modern materials, the noise level in the carriages will be significantly reduced, and the improved air vents will ensure the flow of fresh air. In each train, four cars will be equipped with an environmentally friendly bathroom.

In May 2012, a competition was announced, the winner of which will become the manufacturer of 150 new trains. Three companies did not pass the prequalification commission: Russian Transmashholding, Hyundai from Korea and Pesa from Poland. Among the possible suppliers of double-deck aeroexpress trains, four companies remained: Alstom, Siemens, Skoda and Stadler. The winner of the competition will be announced in January 2012, and then production will begin.

Most likely, it will be necessary to change the existing design of the electric train, since the tall carriages do not fit into the urban landscape. Changing urban infrastructure, rebuilding railway bridges is too expensive a project, so Aeroexpress trains will become low-floor.

In addition to a long-term project related to the order of double-decker electric trains, Aeroexpress plans in the very near future to reconstruct the railway section and launch additional Aeroexpress flights: instead of 30 pairs a day, 58 pairs will be launched.
