It happens that an accessory connected to an electronic device is fully electrically compatible with it, but is equipped with a different connector to which the device has a counterpart. In this case, a special device comes to the rescue - an adapter.

Instructions

Step 1

Before making any adapter, make sure that the device and the accessory are indeed electrically compatible, and do not differ in anything other than connectors.

Step 2

If you need to connect headphones or a microphone equipped with a 3.5 mm jack to a 6, 3 mm jack, or vice versa, to make an adapter, take a plug with a diameter that matches the diameter of the jack on the device, as well as a jack with a diameter that matches the diameter of the plug on headphones and microphone. Connect their contacts of the same name (there are three of them). If either the plug, or the socket, or both have not three contacts, but two, then an adapter can be made of them only for the microphone, but not for the headphones. These connectors have common and middle contacts. You cannot connect the two-pin plug to the headphone jack, since a short circuit in the output of one of the channels, which occurs in this case, can damage the device.

Step 3

Often there is a need to connect a TV with a SCART socket to a VCR or DVD-player with "tulips", or vice versa. In this case, use a regular cord equipped with tulip plugs, a SCART plug and four tulip sockets. Connect them as follows: picture input and output tulip bodies to pin 17 SCART, center pin of the image signal output socket to pin 19, input 20, tulip bodies audio input and output to pin 4, center the contact of the audio output jack is to pin 3, the input is 6. Then connect the cable plugs to the adapter jacks to which you want to.

Step 4

As a general rule, make any adapters as follows. Become familiar with the pin assignment of the accessory plug and the jack on the device. Locate mating parts for both connectors. Find out whether it is necessary to connect the contacts of the same name, or, say, send an output signal from the device to the input contact of the accessory, or vice versa. Make the appropriate connections on the counterparts.

Step 5

Avoid short circuits during assembly. Place the adapter in a sturdy, insulating housing. Turn off the power to the device and accessory before making any connections, unless otherwise expressly authorized by the instruction manual.
